AI has revolutionized the way we approach website design and SEO (search engine optimization), taking user experience (UX) to a whole new level.

The integration of Artificial Intelligence tools in web development has rapidly become a prevailing trend in the industry. In today’s digital age, where online searches drive business success, having an optimized website design that captivates visitors and reduces bounce rates is crucial.

By providing a seamless and enjoyable user experience, your website can foster positive associations with your brand, ultimately boosting your business.

The launch of tools like ChatGPT has gotten people really excited about the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in creating online content. Ever since the release of ChatGPT internet forums have been active with conversations about the possibility of AI web design tools having the ability to create website content and suggest ideas for imagery as a way to streamline processes and free up developers to spend more time on the coding and creative parts of their job.

ChatGPT is a text-to-text tool, meaning that it accepts text as input, and generates the output based on it. You can ask ChatGPT something like “Suggest ideas for a products or landing page that sells stainless steel products” and you will see a list of ideas generated for you. ChatGPT can be used for various tasks you’d rather not do yourself, such as writing marketing copy, product descriptions, and even the entire copy for the web page. I’ve used AI to generate content for our apps and personalized photo stamps, as artificial intelligence is now integrated into the Divi Theme Builder.

SEO Plugins creating keyword content using AI

Artificial Intelligence is making a significant impact on the SEO industry. There are already excellent AI SEO tools available for use to improve your SEO rankings without much effort.

With the availability of plugins that leverage artificial intelligence to create SEO keyword content, your website’s listing on search engines can be enhanced.

In conclusion, the integration of Artificial Intelligence in website design and SEO has revolutionized the way businesses approach online presence. By providing a seamless and enjoyable user experience, AI-powered websites can foster positive associations with brands and ultimately boost business success. Additionally, AI SEO plugins have made it easier to improve SEO rankings by creating keyword-rich content. Embracing AI in website design and SEO is no longer just a trend but a necessity in today’s digital age.

You can stay ahead of the competition by harnessing the power of AI to take your website user experience and SEO to a whole new level.

The search engine can then analyze and understand the content, and serve it to readers in ranked lists on its Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

Before indexing a website, a search engine uses “crawlers” to investigate links and content. Then, the search engine takes the crawled content and organizes it in its database:

We’ll look closer at how this process works in the next section. For now, it can help to think of indexing as an online filing system for website posts and pages, videos, images, and other content. When it comes to Google, this system is an enormous database known as the Google index.

Then, they deliver the information to the search engine’s servers to be indexed:

Every time content is published or updated, search engines crawl and index it to add its information to their databases. This process can happen automatically, but we speed it up by submitting sitemaps to search engines. These documents outline your website’s infrastructure, including links, to help search engines crawl and understand your content more effectively.

Search engine crawlers operate on a “crawl budget.” This budget limits how many pages the bots will crawl and index on your website within a set period. (They do come back, however.)

Crawlers compile information on essential data such as keywords, publish dates, images, and video files. Search engines also analyze the relationship between different pages and websites by following and indexing internal links and external URLs.

Note that search engine crawlers won’t follow all of the URLs on a website. They will automatically crawl dofollow links, ignoring their nofollow equivalents. Therefore, you’ll want to focus on dofollow links in your link-building efforts. These are URLs from external sites that point to your content.

If external links come from high-quality sources, they’ll pass along their “link juice” when crawlers follow them from another site to yours. As such, these URLs can boost your rankings in the SERPs:

Furthermore, keep in mind that some content isn’t crawlable by search engines. If your pages are hidden behind login forms, passwords, or you have text embedded in your images, search engines won’t be able to access and index that content. (You can use alt text to have these images appear in searches on their own, however.)

HTML sitemaps are user-friendly files that list all the content on your website. For example, you’ll typically find one of these sitemaps in a site’s footer. Scroll all the way down on Apple.com, and you will find this, an HTML sitemap:

Australian companies and organisations can soon register their domain names ending in the new .au direct domain, like “dande1st.au”.

The launch of the .au IDN means that Australia has joined the ranks of major countries like China, France, Germany, Japan, and Russia, who also have IDNs that end in “.cn”, “.fr”, “.de”, “.jp”, or “.ru”.

No changes will occur to domain names with existing namespaces because of the launch of the new .au direct domain. You will still be able to use, register and renew com.au, net.au, id.au, org.au, asn.au, edu.au and gov.au etc.

The Launch of the .au Domain

As advised by auDA, the .au direct domain will launch on 24 March 2022. auDA is the organisation that develops and administers the rules for domain names in the .au country code Top Level Domain.

The new .au domain extension will be available to Australian internet users who wish to register a shorter and simpler web address.

.au direct names are accessible to anyone with a verified relationship to Australia. Additionally, these domains are open to anyone who wants to create a web presence for themselves or their business/organisation.

If you already have a domain ending in any .au namespace, you will be able to apply for Priority Status. In doing so, you will be able to register for its exact match in .au.

If the name doesn’t already exist in the .au namespace, you can purchase the .au direct name from 24 March 2022.

Priority Allocation Process

Registrants with existing com.au, net.au, id.au, org.au, asn.au, edu.au and gov.au domain names can enter the Priority Allocation Process. This process will run from 24 March 2022 to 20 September 2022 to obtain an exact .au direct match. This six-month period is the Priority Allocation Period.

In some cases, there may be multiple applicants applying for the same .au direct name. For example, John is the registrant of example.com.au and Jane is the registrant of example.net.au. In this situation, the exact match for the .au direct domain will be allocated according to the Priority Allocation Process.

The Priority Allocation Process is the process of distributing names among eligible registrants. Furthermore, this process is described in the .au direct registry Priority Implementation Rules.

For instance, if you are the registrant of example.com.au you will have six months to apply for example.au if you would like to licence it. You can apply for the exact match .au direct domain name via a participating .au accredited registrar.

Eligibility Criteria

Any person or organisation can register for a .au domain if they meet the Eligibility Criteria of having an Australian presence.
To be eligible to register, you must be:

A sole trader, partnership, company, charity, association, or trust with a current ABN or ACN.
A permanent Australian resident or citizen.
A foreign business with an Australian trademark application or registration.
There are no rules stating that domains must match business names, products, or services.

The Benefits of .au Domains

9 out of 10 Australians prefer to conduct business with fellow Australians. With a .au domain, Aussies can quickly identify that they are dealing with a local company.

Memorable: It’s easier to remember a website with a simple and short domain.
Reliable: Give customers the confidence to click on your URL during an online search.
Australian: Immediately be recognised as a verified Australian business.

Contact us to register your interest in a .au direct domain.

This month we published the ebook version of Takeaway – the Sale of the Government Printing Office which coincides with the 30th anniversary of the first Government Asset Sale in New Zealand when on January 24, 1990, the Crown and Graeme Hart of the Rank Group signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement for the Government Printing Office that was to come into effect on January 31, 1990.

The signing of the Sale and Purchase Agreement was the beginning of the end of a poorly conceived sale process that was drawn out over two years. But even following the signing of the agreement it took a further 10 months before the Crown were able to fully complete their obligations which would allow Rank full management of the business. But the Agreement signed on January 24 allowed for the Rank Group to take all the profits of the business even though they had only paid a small deposit and during that time the GPO sales turnover was more than the profit the Government made on the sale of this business asset.

To make matters worse for the Crown, Rank managed to get out of paying any interest on the balance of the money owing when they offered to help finalise issues that the government departments and consultants responsible were having. This amounted to Rank saving a further $1.5 million. Rank also were able to save over $2 million off their original bid for the business following an audit after the sale. The purchase of this Government asset was the springboard that was to launch Rank into the country’s wealthiest investment business that 30 years on is worth more than the national debt reduction the assets sales programme was supposed to achieve.

Takeaway – The sale of The Government Printing Office revisits the GPO in the 1980s of change and looks at what went wrong with the sale process and the effects and aftermath the sale created for the business, that years later triggered a Commission of Inquiry due to the very poor sale result that was less than the cost of the sale process itself and led to a profitable printing, publishing and stationery business being sold for much less than it was worth.

There seems to be an alarming number of scam email attempts going around lately, and a few of them in particular have people extremely concerned. Scam emails are nothing new, but we have had people contact us regarding a specific type of email that has been doing the rounds since August last year. There are a few variations of this email, however it will generally follow these main points:

Hello, I am a notorious hacker.

I have infected your computer with malware, and I have used this to get embarrassing footage of you via your webcam.

For proof, this is your password: *password here*

For further proof, I have sent this email from your own email account which I have also hacked. Check the sender address.

Deposit $xxx.xx amount of dollars into my Bitcoin wallet, or I will send the footage of you to everyone you know on social media and all the email addresses in your mailbox and ruin your life forever.

Without a doubt, the contents of the email are very disturbing when taken at face value. To the layperson it understandably sounds convincing. How could they know my password and send an email from my own account if what they were saying isn’t true?

How is an email sent from my own email address if they don’t really have access to the account?

This is due to a technique called ‘spoofing’, and it’s surprisingly easy to do. Spoofing is when somebody forges the from address of an email. This is one of the most common tactics used in phishing and spam emails. It’s very successful, and even if you know what to look out for, it may still catch you out on occasion.
You can confirm whether an email has been spoofed or not by checking the email’s “header”. If you’re not sure how to check the header of an email, MxToolBox have some great guides you can check out. You can then run the headers through their very useful ‘Email Header Analyzer’.

Here is a real life example header of a spoofed scam email. Please note that certain sections have been altered or removed for the privacy of the original recipient:

Delivered-To: joe@example.com
Received: from b1s3-1b-syd.hosting-services.net.au
by b1s3-1b-syd.hosting-services.net.au with LMTP id KJgNBTmM1FvU3TcAM3NUgg
for < joe@example.com >;
Received: from out06.smtpout.orange.fr ([193.252.22.215]:46953 helo=out.smtpout.orange.fr) < (This is a French IP address)
by b1s3-1b-syd.hosting-services.net.au with esmtps (TLSv1:DHE-RSA-AES128-SHA:128)
(envelope-from < joe@example.com >)
for joe@example.com;
Received: from ([113.172.60.79]) < (This is a Vietnamese IP address)

I have made bold the parts of the email header which shows it to be spoofed. What we’re looking for here is the IP address (the numbers in brackets). Once you have the IP address the email was sent from, you can then check it using a geolocation IP tool to identify the origin. Our servers are all based in Australia, so if it’s an IP address from a foreign country then it wasn’t sent from your own mail server.

What we’re trying to illustrate in the example header is that the email was first sent by someone with a Vietnamese IP address, which was then sent from a mail service in France into the inbox. In conclusion, the email was originally sent from someone else’s email address and not from the account it claims to be from.

Now, on to the other convincing aspect of this type of scam email.

How do they know my password?

The password may look familiar because of the frequent data breaches that large companies experience on an ongoing basis. These breaches can sometimes result in the leak of millions of user’s passwords to the public.

When you receive a scam email and it includes a familiar password that you have used before or still use, it’s likely that the scammer has just grabbed it from a data leak of passwords.

One of the best websites for checking whether you have been part of a data leak over the years is ‘Have I Been Pwned’. All you need to do is enter your email address. The tool will then return a list of sites and services that your email address has been leaked from (and potentially other information such as your password).

If your email shows up and you have not recently updated your password, please ensure that you do so as soon as possible. Anytime your password, or a password that you have used before, is emailed to you, you should immediately update that password wherever you use it.

Hopefully you can rest a little easier, knowing that these scam emails are usually nothing but a cheap trick. If you’re still in any doubt however, we are always here to put your mind at ease and investigate further for you. Please feel free to give us a call on 0426 998 755. And whatever you do, never deposit your hard-earned money into a scammer’s bitcoin wallet!

A way of solving this is by implementing a feature on your site that enables them to request a callback.

What Callbacks Are (And How They Can Help You Increase Conversions)

When it comes to communicating with your site’s visitors, most people rely on email campaigns (EDMs). However, this is far from the only possible approach. For example, you could also use push notifications and even phone calls.

When it comes to phone calls, you have the benefit of speaking directly to the user. Many prefer this type of communication and find them more personal than emails or live chats. The problem is that you may not always be available to take a call, and some users could be hesitant about being the ones to initiate contact in this way.

One way to get around these issues is to implement a way for users to request a callback. This works by them giving you their phone number, at which point you can call them at a time that suits you. This feature can be highly effective for the following reasons:

The customer gives you their explicit permission to call them, which means the communication won’t feel like an intrusion.

People that request callbacks are often more primed to convert and may just need a little push to get there.

Speaking directly to someone can be much more effective from a marketing standpoint than emails.

Adding a feature that enables people to request a callback means you get a chance to land a client that you might not have secured otherwise. It also ensures that you’re in control of your communications at all times.

Conclusion:

Getting visitors to share their phone numbers with you can be complicated. However, there are plugins available that add this option for them to request a callback. Once this option is used by your website visitor they know they’re in control of when you’ll contact them and why. That, in turn, can help assuage any privacy concerns they might have.

On the 1st of July, Australia’s online space will be going through its first big shakeup in more than a decade, changing the way we register, renew, and manage Australian domain names (.COM.AU, .ID.AU, etc).

The Registry Operator Is Changing
After more than 15 years of championing Australia’s online space, AusRegistry will be passing the digital flame over to one of the largest registry operators in the world, Afilias.

Afilias is the world’s second-largest domain name registry, managing more than 20 million domains across dozens of different extensions.

More Flexible Billing Periods
As a part of this transition, multi-year registration periods will be made available for all Australian country code top-level domains giving you the freedom to register or renew any domain name that ends in ‘.au’ for your choice of 1-5 years.

Your Website Won’t Be Affected
We imagine the process involved in transitioning the data of Australia’s 3+ million active domain names will be fairly complex and require a lot of double, triple, and quadruple checking…

As such, downtime at the registry level has been scheduled to begin at 8:00am on Saturday the 30th of June and is expected to be complete at approximately 8:00pm on Sunday, the 1st of July.

During this time, pending transfers, renewals, and change of registrants may be affected and the new registration of any Australian ccTLDs will be unavailable. There will also be a 14-day period where domain purges will not take place, giving registrars the chance to verify data integrity and help mitigate any potential issues after the transition is complete.

You might have noticed that many business websites now contain a privacy policy. As most websites contain a contact form or an online store you may want to consider having a privacy policy on your website that lets customers know how you deal with their personal information submitted when they use your website to communicate with you.

There is no requirement to have a privacy policy on a site but most businesses decide that it is a simple way to comply with the requirements of Australian Privacy Principle No. 1.

Basically, the purpose of a privacy policy is to simply explain to customers and potential customers how you manage their personal information. There is no template for a privacy policy that you must follow.

We have a basic privacy policy on our website that can be used as a guide – see this link: https://dande1st.com/privacy-policy/

With the EU’s new data privacy law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect this month, addressing the protection of information that is collected and stored on a website, some Australian website owners are being asked by their customers to make sure that they’re going to meet the GDPR, because it’s simply seen as almost a de facto, new global standard.

If you think you should have a privacy policy on your website we would be happy to assist in creating one on your behalf.

IF YOU ASK most business owners what the best way to generate website traffic is they will pretty much always talk about SEO. There are plenty of other channels available, such as referrals and social media, but nothing really compares to search engines. The problem is that not only are business owners competing against every other business owner out there for certain keywords that relate to their industry, but they also generally don’t have the resources they need to develop and deliver content and an experience that resonates with both current and prospective consumers.

Fortunately there are ways to optimize your website that will provide some great opportunities to generate website traffic and boost your conversions.

Here are some easy search engine optimization (SEO) tips to help get your website listing on search engines:

Keyword research is essential for on page optimization. Chances are you are naturally including keywords without realizing it simply by providing valuable content on a topic. However, there are a variety of tools and techniques for finding related keywords relevant to your page that you may not have considered. The Google Adwords Keyword Tool and semrush.com both offer great tools that allow you to find keywords related to your topic and even spy on your competition to see what words and phrases they are targeting to bring traffic to their sites.

Utilize keywords throughout your page. Once you have targeted a couple of valuable, relevant keywords, it is important to place them where they will have the most impact for humans and search engine crawlers indexing your content. Try to include them in the following places:

Title

Headings and subheadings

Introductory sentence

Concluding paragraph

Anchor text (text you hyperlink to other related pages on your site)

Title tags and meta descriptions

Be careful not to engage in keyword stuffing, which is the act of filling your content with so many keywords that it becomes difficult to read. Not only will this irritate your page readers, it will also get you penalized by Google. A couple of strategically placed keywords will do the trick.

Optimize your images. Whenever you upload a photo to your media library, be sure to include keywords in the file name and fill out the alternate text field with a brief, keyword rich description of the photo.

Reference others with links. When you mention another site or article in your page, include a link to the information you are referencing. Not only is it good etiquette, but you may also get lucky and receive a link back. Quality links are a valuable commodity for any site looking to rank higher in search engine results pages.

Use social media to broaden the reach of your blog posts. As a small business, you may be utilizing Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or other social media sites to create connections with potential and current customers. Why not promote your page content on these sites for even more web exposure?
